Welcome to The Woodland Lantern

Our story…

The Woodland Lantern was born from a book about woodland gnomes. The book is called “Gnomes” by Wil Huygen and Rien Poortvielt. Inside, the book goes deep into the lifestyle of these wonderful, well-illustrated gnomes and how they live harmoniously with nature. The book gets into how the gnomes are woodworkers, homebuilders, foragers, plant medicine experts, potters, tailors, metal workers, and healers to name a few. The woodland gnomes protect the forest. Right as the books pages were first glanced on, Jay saw this could be a great inspiration model for a company looking to help the planet. And so brick by brick, The Woodland Lantern slowly is taking shape. The Woodland Lantern is a multi-disciplinary design and education platform centered around world solutions with inspiration from woodland gnomes. The woodland gnome serves as an example that no matter how small you are, you can make a great positive impact on people and the interconnected Planet. The lantern shines the way…

Jay is The Woodland Lantern’s multi-disciplinary designer and educator. He has spent time professionally as a carpenter, landscaper, and timber framer. “In design college, I was learning about the Anthropocene and the interconnected parts to ecosystems. It was there my drive to transform the world began.”
