Welcome to The Woodland Lantern
Our story…
The Woodland Lantern was born from a book about woodland gnomes on how they live harmoniously amongst nature. The book is called “Gnomes” by Wil Huygen and Rien Poortvliet. Inside, the book goes deep into the simple, yet intricate lifestyles of these wonderful, well-illustrated gnomes. The book gets into how the gnomes are woodworkers, stewards of strength, homebuilders, gardeners, foragers, plant medicine experts, potters, seamstresses, metal workers, and healers to name a few. The woodland gnomes protect the forest and the life that resides within. Right as the books pages were first glanced on, Jay, the founder, saw this could be a great inspiration model for a company aiming to help the planet by taking the various activities from the book and bringing them to life! And so brick by brick, The Woodland Lantern is slowly taking shape. The Woodland Lantern is an innovative, regenerative platform centered around world solutions with inspiration from woodland gnomes and their forest ecosystems where health prospers. Through multi-disciplinary design and education, The Woodland Lantern is utilizing the 5 pillars to create a holistic impact spanning from a highly intentional and connected set of world solutions. The approach is to restore the planet’s ecology while simultaneously restoring our personal health by working through and refining our landscapes, the way we construct shelters, the clothes we wear, the tools we use most, and our daily wellness habits so we can achieve optimal states of complete well-being. The woodland gnome serves as an example that gnome matter how small you are, you can make a great positive impact on people and the interconnected planet. Come along for the adventure ahead! The lantern shines the way…
Jay is The Woodland Lantern’s lead multi-disciplinary designer and educator. He has spent time professionally as a naturalist, carpenter, landscaper, organic farmer, and timber frame foreman. “In design college, I was learning about the Anthropocene and the interconnected parts to ecosystems. It was there my drive to transform the world began.” Jay is currently back at school finishing his bachelor’s degree in Environmental Studies at a local college while working on the side as a land steward for the county to build relevant skills and further understand the challenges we face along with the most effective route for planetary transformation. The Woodland Lantern is his contribution to the shared vision of a healthy world of abundance for all kinds in harmony with nature.
