What Is Ecology?

What is ecology? Ecology is the study of interconnected relationships of an ecosystem whether at a micro scale {small} or at a macro scale {large}. Life is a series of relationships. Whether we are speaking in terms of chemistry, physics, urban environments, and/or forest ecosystems: Ecology is the science of the interactions and outcomes of relationships such as a dung beetle to a 3 toed sloth or mycellium networks in relation to white oak.

Why is ecology an important part to The Woodland Lantern? Ecology is important to TWL because of how relationships, especially with design and interaction, are important to understand so we can exist in harmony with the materials we interact with, the land we utilize, and the people we share time together with. Ecology is vital as a continuous topic of discussion here at The Woodland Lantern. Harmony or symbiosis with relationships is where the magic truly happens.

Harmony is a nice transition to and from ecology because of how vital it is to be in symbiosis in relationships where both parties involved are benefiting and not causing damage to eachother. Harmony within the study of ecology is being explored here at TWL because of how important it is to have healthy relationships, whether in the design materials we choose, how we interact with our designs, the people who we share our lives with, and the land in which we reside on. Harmony with ecology are like potatoes and gravy.
